Happy Mother’s Day!

A quick personal reflection this morning.

First, Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms! I already sent my personal note to each of the direct Moms in my life. I am so thankful for all you do!

Adam (the first man) named his wife Eve because she was going to be Mother to all the living human beings ever to come.1

Women are SO MUCH MORE than Moms. They are so much more, especially physically. It was common in the first century church for both men and women to remain single as they sought Jesus.

But they are Moms. They are called to be. Even Single women have an amazing ability to nurture those around them in a powerful way. And lest you think I am being merely sexist here you should know that my wife is the most rough and tumble, bull in a china shop, person I know. No joke. She can out tool me, our pack me, out just about every category traditionally thought of as masculine-only roles. She’s smarter then me, she’s wiser than me.. the only thing she can’t do? Complex Math.

She is also an amazing Mother… to our kids, yes… But also to everyone she comes in contact with that Jesus lays on her heart.

Recently, she was telling me that she didn’t feel comfortable going out and sharing her faith (like door to door, or whatever)

I promptly reminded her that all I would have to do is bring one person to love through the door and she would be showering that person with hospitality and more.

My point in all these words is this: Be a Mom ladies. We need you. You get that nurturing gift from your Heavenly Father. It may look VERY different than my wife’s nurturing gift. Regardless, we need you! You make the world better JUST by existing and gracing us with your presence.
