My family and I were watching an interview done by Phil and Jase Robertson on their YouTube channel. Phil and Jase were featured on the show Duck Dynasty. They were interviewing Dallas Jenkins, creator and writer of the series “The Chosen.”
They were talking about the power of seeing aspects of the gospels play out on screen. Something Jase said drew my attention. He told how he came to faith… This included two key elements…One was the Bible. The other was watching His dad, Phil, be transformed by the gospel.
If you aren’t familiar with Phil and his wife Kay’s testimony or just want a refresher I highly recommend watching the YouTube video below, specifically the first part. This is how I first became aware of their story.
In case you didn’t watch… Phil went from having affairs on his wife, being drunk and angry, to being faithful, joyful, and in love with Jesus and his wife Kay.
Jase shared his testimony about his own experience with his dad’s story… that it became living proof of the Gospel. He also talks about how reading the Bible drew Him to God.
When I shared this with my wife, in contrast with some of my own experiences sharing the gospel (more on this at a later date) she highlighted this verse:
“And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”
Revelation 12:11 ESV
The blood of the lamb… and the word of their testimony.
What is the blood of the lamb? The blood of the lamb refers to what Jesus did for us on the cross. He died, shedding his blood, so that we might be reconciled to God.1 All four of the Gospels are often considered to be stories about the death and resurrection of Jesus, with very long introductions. The story of Jesus death and the events surrounding it are laid out in greater detail than the rest of the narrative.
Just like in Jase’s story, there is power in pairing the truth of the Gospel (the blood of the lamb) with actual testimony of how this is applied in someone’s life.
I feel like there is so much more to unpack here…but I also sense it best to keep this particular post brief.
May you take delight in your Heavenly Father today. Know He loves you and is transforming you from the inside out.
