Our Dad who Heals: רָפָא

Last night I witnessed God heal a man who is on his journey towards accepting Jesus.

A week and a half before this we saw God heal a man of carpal tunnel to show him how much He loves Him.

The Hebrew word for heal is rapha

Strong’s Definitions: רָפָא râphâʼ, raw-faw’; or רָפָה râphâh; a primitive root; properly, to mend (by stitching), i.e. (figuratively) to cure:—cure, (cause to) heal, physician, repair, ×thoroughly, make whole.

In the Bible, God says he is the one who heals us.

Biblically speaking this word is applied in multiple ways. A few of them are:

1. Physical healing (Exodus 15:26)

2. Emotional Healing (Psalm 147:3)

3. Spiritual Healing (Isaiah 57:18, Jeremiah 3:22)

4. Healing of the land (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Each of these are instances where God uses the word rapha or someone else uses it in describing Gods actions to mend his world and his people.

When Jesus came he proclaimed this comprehensive healing as his mission. Quoting from the book of Isaiah he says:

““The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭ESV‬‬

He then claims that this scripture is coming true before their very eyes. In the context he clearly makes reference to physical healing miracles, healing of the broken-hearted, and to spiritual freedom.

Jesus is out to heal the whole person. He purchases this complete work through dying on the cross and rising from the Dead.

Yes it’s true. Not everyone seems to get healed this side of His return for one unknown reason or another…however it is clearly the direction He is moving and it is a work he intends to complete through the resurrection and restoration of the world.

One passage I find extremely helpful when thinking about healing is from 1 Peter:

“So brace your minds for action. Keep your balance. And set your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Yeshua the Messiah.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬ ‭TLV‬‬

The revelation of Yeshua(Jesus)the Messiah refers to when Jesus comes back and the dead are raised from their graves.

We are moving towards a day of complete restoration and Jesus is inviting us to be a part of it. As we set our hope on that next age (and more importantly HIM), we act on that hope in this age by being used by God to release miracles (signs of the age to come)

So may you receive alllll that God has for you. Healings of body, mind, soul, and spirit… and then go out and give with the Spirit He gave you!

“As you go, proclaim, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near!’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with tza’arat (skin diseases), drive out demons. Freely you received, freely give.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭TLV‬‬
